    Overall objectives of the module:

    • To develop teachers’ understanding about the philosophical and theoretical assumptions that lie behind syllabus design.
    • To provide guidelines how to design a syllabus in a chosen professional area and to critically evaluate it.
    • To assist teachers in preparing syllabi based upon needs analyses and the students’ professional field.

    The expected outcome:

    • Teachers will develop an understanding about the main elements of syllabus design
    • Teachers will have skills to evaluate critically their own syllabus with reference to different approaches to syllabus design
    • Teachers will develop a competency to design syllabi, based upon the needs analyses and the students’ professional field.
    • Teachers will develop skills needed for the curriculum and syllabus design by doing an ESP course design project on content level.
